Marble countertops are the most flamboyant areas of your kitchen. It is used very often during the day and gets dirty. Did you know that the products used to clean marble surfaces cause permanent damage to the surface? The use of chemical materials preferred in marble cleaning can cause marble surfaces to lose their shine and become stained over time.

5 rules to avoid in order to have a counter that you can use for many years without deteriorating its natural structure !

1. Do not use vinegar and lemon

Marbles contain a large amount of calcium carbonate from a mineralogical point of view. Calcium carbonate reacts with acids to form a chemical reaction and causes deformation. Acidic products such as vinegar and lemon are not suitable cleaners for marble surfaces. It causes darkening and abrasion on marble surfaces over time.

2. Do not use chemical cleaners

You should be especially careful about choosing suitable materials for cleaning marble surfaces. Using materials with strong chemical composition will damage your marble. There are some types of detergents that you should avoid, and unfortunately these are the most popular cleaning products preferred by many. When cleaning marble surfaces, you should be especially careful by choosing suitable cleaning materials. It has a very strong formula such as bleach, vinegar, ammonia, acidic cleaners, hydrogen peroxide (oxygenated water). Using it directly on marble surfaces will cause pits and irreparable deterioration.

3. Do not leave soap and detergent

Leaving soap and dishwashing detergents, which we make a habit of in our kitchens, on marble counters actually harms the marble. These products, which come into contact with marble surfaces, will dry and form circular spots on the floor.

4. Protect against impact

Sometimes we can’t find a place to break the crusty products and we break them on marble counters and beat the meat products on the same counters. In fact, this situation, which is among the biggest mistakes made, can cause your marble countertops to break. Using a direct hammer or dropping heavy objects will leave white marks on the surface of the marble. Due to these situations, irreparable damages occur in the marble texture most of the time. Direct impact should not be applied on marble countertops.

5. Do not sit or stand

Sometimes we step on marble counters to access cabinets that are beyond our height, and sometimes we sit or lean on marble while engaging in pleasant kitchen conversations. Note that there are gaps for certain areas under the marble countertops applied in kitchens and bathrooms. You may see hairline cracks or fractures over time in your empty marble counters under pressure.
